It has come
to my attention that there are many of you
that have not registered for the February
meeting in Crystal River. This needs to be
done by the 25th of January. I hope you
have gotten your rooms as the deadline was
January 8th.
Please
make sure you get your registrations in
as it is looking very sad at the present
time.
Thanks.

In my Jaycee travels this past weekend,
someone told me that I make them laugh!
They had been juggling a lot of work, Jaycee
and family issues and the stress had been
building up and affecting their mood, energy
level and all around disposition. I
definitely took this comment as a compliment
because I was able to bring a smile to
someone’s face and make them laugh and feel
good if even for a few minutes. I truly
believe that…
LAUGHTER IS THE BEST MEDICINE
I love to
laugh! I love that feeling when I laugh so
much my cheeks hurt and my stomach hurts!
This happened to me at Year End Conference
when we were at Sea World. I was standing
in line with Dee, Jack and Carolina waiting
to enter an attraction when a member of our
party made a comment that not only the four
of us could hear, but everyone waiting in
line could hear. We began laughing so hard
that it drew even more attention and I was
bent over in laughter with tears rolling
down my eyes. Was everyone looking at us
because we were being obnoxious or were they
looking at us wondering what was so funny
and envious of the fun we were having? I’m
one that doesn’t like being a part of that
kind of attention, but I didn’t care…I was
having too much fun laughing!!
They say that the sound or roaring laughter
is far more contagious than any cough,
sniffle, or sneeze. Humor and laughter can
cause a domino effect of joy and amusement,
as well as set off a number of positive
physical effects.
Why
did the mushroom go to the party? . . .
Because he was a fungi!
Why did he
leave the party?...There
wasn’t mushroom!
Laughter's Effects on the Body
|
Laughter lowers
blood pressure |
People who laugh heartily on a
regular basis have lower blood
pressure than the average
person. When people have a good
laugh, initially the blood
pressure rises, but then it
decreases to levels below
normal. Breathing then becomes
deeper which sends oxygen
enriched blood and nutrients
throughout the body. |
|
Humor changes our biochemical
state |
Laughter
decreases stress hormones and
increases infection fighting
antibodies. It increases our
attentiveness, heart rate, and
pulse. |
|
Laughter protects
the heart |
Laughter,
along with an active sense of
humor, may help protect you
against a heart attack. A recent
study done by the University of
Maryland Medical Center found
that people with heart disease
were 40% less likely to laugh in
a variety of situations compared
to people of the same age
without heart disease. |
|
Laughter gives
our bodies a good workout |
Laughter can
be a great workout for your
diaphragm, abdominal,
respiratory, facial, leg, and
back muscles. It massages
abdominal organs, tones
intestinal functioning, and
strengthens the muscles that
hold the abdominal structures in
place. It is estimated that
hearty laughter can burn
calories equivalent to several
minutes of exercise. |
|
Humor improves
brain function and relieves
stress |
Laughter
stimulates both sides of
the brain to enhance
learning. It eases
muscle tension and
psychological stress,
which keeps the brain
alert and allows people
to retain more
information.

Over the past several weeks, many of us have
or know of someone that have lost a loved
one, lost a job, been given bad news
regarding their personal health, etc. Is it
appropriate that we try and laugh during
these difficult times? Both laughing and
crying are designed to release emotions and
offer us relief. During tough times we may
think that laughter is inappropriate or an
indication that we're not as serious as we
"should" be. It is believed that in tough
times laughter is especially helpful to move
us from our intense mental state to
connection with others, perhaps through
service and outreach. Laughter is about
connection, and what better time to connect
outside of ourselves than during difficult
times.
Considering the immeasurable benefits of
humor it only makes sense to bring as much
laughter into our lives as possible. What
other medicine is this powerful, yet
completely free and has no bad side effects?
What did
the car say to the tire? . . . “Don’t stop
now, you’re on a roll!”
What did one wall say to the other
wall?..."Meet
you at the corner!”
In my 13
years as a Jaycee, I’ve experienced a lot of
laughter and fun at the many conferences,
meetings, projects and other state functions
I’ve attended. Below is a list of upcoming
Florida Jaycee events that you will want to
be involved with. You never know who’s
going to be there, and what’s going to
happen or be said that will cause us to
laugh, smile and just have a good time
Thanks.
